As a Calgary Flames fan, I was pretty happy to see Vesa Toskala added to the roster since the team really does need to have a worthy backup goaltender for Miikka Kiprusoff.  Honestly, if they didn’t do this, they really couldn’t consider themselves contenders for the Stanley Cup because the team rides Kip too hard.

I think Ryan Whitney joining the Edmonton Oilers is another good deal.  He was sent to the team by the Anaheim Ducks for Lubomir Visnovsky which I think is a good addition for the Ducks as well.

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent Lee Stempniak to the Phoenix Coyotes and I’m left scratching my head over this one.  They’ve really dumped a lot of players…

I see Justin Pogge joining the Carolina Hurricanes as being similar to Toskala being added to the Calgary lineup.  Cam Ward needs a worthy backup and I think Pogge is a promising goaltender.
