UNF to add women’s golf in 2012-13
University of North Florida Director of Athletics Lee Moon announced the addition of women’s golf as a Division I athletic program, increasing the number of varsity sports sponsored by the university to 18.
“We are excited about adding women’s golf into the family of Osprey sports,” said Moon. “We feel like women’s golf is a perfect fit for our athletic program at this time, especially with the success that our men’s golf program has enjoyed recently. Our location, the ability to play year round and our facilities give us an immediate advantage in not only attracting a strong coach but also in drawing top-notch golf prospects interested in competing at the highest level.”
The women’s golf program is slated to begin NCAA competition during the 2012-13 season. A national search to identify a head coach is scheduled for spring 2011, while the 2011-12 season will be utilized for recruiting, scheduling and player development.
