It was pretty shafty when Alex Kovalev was left off of Russia’s Olympic roster last month but his play tonight was enough to prove that he might have deserved a spot.
After 10 scoreless games, Kovalev came up big for the Ottawa Senators by scoring four goals and helping lead the team to a 7-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. It was a wild game with both goaltenders struggling.
"It was a weird game all around," said Flyers goalie Brian Boucher who had replaced Michael Leighton. "Both of the starting goalies get pulled and we battle back, then unfortunately, they got the better of us in the third. I can’t explain really what happened out there. It’s disappointing to come back and lose like that."
Well, it was a good game for Kovalev who scored the game winning goal. "All I can say is that it’s a good way to start 2010," he said. "Hopefully, that’s the way it’s going to go for me the rest of the season," he said. "I’ve been saying before that I’m trying to find the right spot and be in the right spot at the right time. I think today that was exactly what happened. I’ve been chasing that for many games."
