World Sports News:RIP Gaines Adams

It’s so sad to see a football player, the very epitome of strength and vitality, get taken down so very young. I was truly saddened to see that Chicago Bear defensive end Gaines Adams had died over the weekend. He was just 26. The Associated Press said an autopsy revealed an enlarged heart, which had apparently been undetected before.
Adams is one of those players very few people heard about. He was in the league just a few short years, playing for both the Bears and Tampa Bay Bucs. The Bucs drafted him in 2007 and had all kinds of hope and expectations for him. Too much perhaps. The AP says he “had just 17 tackles and one sack in 15 games — 10 with Chicago — this season.”
The saddest thing is how much potential he had. I can’t stand when a player like this dies and people say he had no impact. Every player, every person, has impact. Look at Charles Woodson’s year. He was just named Defensive Player of the Year and had his best season ever at the age of 33. Woodson has only gotten better each year he has been with the Packers.
Let’s use the death of Adams as a way to remind ourselves that a life is important, no matter the records or events you can see and document. So much more goes into a player’s game, a sports team, and a life.
