World Sports News:Titans Finally Pay Chris Johnson
Article Summary:
Article Content:
Last season, Chris Johnson rushed for 2,006 yards, scored 16 touchdowns, totaled 503 receiving yards and caught 50 passes. Despite those numbers, the Tennessee Titans tried to get him to play the 2010 NFL for only 0,000. On Monday, the Titans finally wised up and gave Johnson a contract that will pay him .5 million next season.
While Johnson will still be underpaid, this new contract is definitely a step in the right direction. Now that he has his contract, he’ll focus his energies at accomplishing his goal of breaking the NFL rushing record, which is currently 2,105 yards by Eric Dickerson.
For the Titans, they had to do this. If Johnson had held out, their season would have been over before it started. With Johnson running the ball, the Titans have to be considered one of the top ten teams in the NFL.
Will Chris Johnson break the rushing record? Probably not. He took a pounding last season and will take a pounding early this season. His explosiveness is elite right now but is likely to become more average once those hits add up.
